I Am... Taiwanese Scallion Beef Roll Recipe

Have you guys ever had Taiwanese beef rolls? Essentially, they're flaky, crispy green onions pancakes wrapped around tender braised beef with hoisin sauce, cucumbers, and cilantro. Sweet and savory, with a hint of freshness from the cucumber and cilantro, they're an extremely satsifying snack and a classic order at bubble tea/boba places.

I Am... What to Cook in March

It's March! February passed by in a flash and I have to admit, even though I was into the snow a couple of days ago, I am ready for spring. I can't wait until I don't have to wear layers and I'm dreaming of the day I can walk out of the house without a heavy coat. The best part of almost spring is the almost spring vegetables.

I Am... Bo Kho: the Vietnamese Beef Stew You Never Knew You Loved

I didn't grow up eating beef stew, but to say that I have an obsession with it is putting it mildly. There's something about beef stew that's always captured my attention. Even as a kid I always wanted to eat it – beef was never on the dinner table, so I'm not sure if it was the forbiddenness of it or the fact that beef stew smells so darn good.

I Am... Friday Finds: 2.23.18

Whew! It's been a snowy week here and to be honest, it's kind of sort of been perfect. I thought I was over winter, but it's been so white and cozy that I'm convinced that winter can stay...for another couple of weeks at least!

I Am... Tokyo Ramen Guide: Where to Eat Wantan-men/Wonton Ramen

If you're looking for a Tokyo Ramen Guide, you've come to the right place. When in Japan, eat ramen, right? It's a no brainer for a noodle lover like me. And in theory, it seems simple enough, but really, when you get there, you'll see, the ramen culture is intense. Shops on shops on shops of little restaurants, all selling ramen. And, the kicker? All the pictures look the same! There's creamy pork bone based tonkotsu, shoyu-dashi based Tokyo-style, rich and creamy miso based bowls, and the list goes on and on and on.

I Am... Sunday Brunch: Breakfast Yorkshire Puddings with Roast Beef and Eggs

I'm all about fancy Sunday brunches, without the work. I mean, I think everyone is, that's why going out for brunch is a thing. But, my favorite thing to do, even more than going out for brunch, is making it at home, but only under very specific circumstances.

I Am... Malaysian Flatbread: Roti Canai Recipe

Have you ever had roti canai? It's flaky, crispy, and UGH, so good. I eat it on it's own or with a bit of curry sauce and I'm in heaven. Roti canai is kind of like Indian roti, but not. Essentially, it's an Indian based flat bread that came about Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore, from the Indian community. It's also known as roti prata and to be honest, it doesn't matter what name it has because it's delicious.

I Am... Crispy Pan Fried Lemongrass Chicken Recipe

Lemongrass chicken is the bomb. Super flavorful and perfect with rice and a side salad. I always tell myself I'm going to order the lemongrass chicken plate when we go out for Vietnamese food, but inevitably, I order pho because making lemongrass chicken at home is so easy.

I Am... Spicy Lamb Ragu Recipe

Hearty and comforting, this lamb ragu is just the thing you need to keep away the winter blues. There's something about a huge portion of pasta covered in saucy meat ragu that is ultra warming. The second best part about making this, aside from the fact that you get to eat it, is that it fills your house up with the most delicious smells.

I Am... Yoshinoya Copycat Gyudon Recipe

This gyudon recipe is a favorite quick go-to weeknight recipe. Gyudon might be one of my ultimate comfort foods: soft and tender thinly sliced steak simmered in an uber flavorful stock, served on fluffy white rice. It's no wonder that in Japan there are several fast food chains that feature this iconic Japanese dish.

I Am... How to Make Chinese Hot Pot at Home

One of my all time favorite meals growing up was Chinese hot pot. Or, as we called it, steam boat. I'm pretty sure my parents called it that to make it more fun for us, because boats are something that kids like? Anyway, we all call it hot pot now and it's still one of my favorite things to eat on a cold and cozy night. Hot pot in Chinese is called huǒ guō (fire pot) or dǎ biān lú (fight the furnace). It's a fun and filling way to spend the night eating and chatting because you're literally hanging around a hot pot at the table where you cook and eat together.

I Am... How to Celebrate the Year of the Dog: Traditions and What to Cook for Chinese New Year

Woah, it's Chinese New Year already! This year, CNY lands on February 16th and it'll be the Year of the Dog – one of the cutest years ever, in my humble opinion. Seems like this year there's a huge abundance of interest in Chinese New Year that I haven't really seen before. Mike and I just got back from a quick Las Vegas trip and we saw so many Chinese New Year slot machines. All the stores around town have Chinese New Year window displays and some local restaurants are doing Chinese themed menus to celebrate.
