I Am... Flourless Meyer Lemon Almond Loaf Cake Recipe

It's a brand-new year and a brand-new I am a Food Blog! Okay, not completely brand-new, but Mike did do a little re-design, which you can read a little bit about here. The start of a new year usually means that people are on the look out for recipes that just a wee bit healthier. I'm not really one to be all fanatical about the healthy stuff, but I do think this cake is nice, light and perfect if you're looking for something sweet but not too crazy after all of your holiday indulgences. Plus, starting off the new year with cake for breakfast is something I can definitely get behind.

I Am... Friday Links: 1.2.2015

Woah, first Friday of 2015! I've always loved the beginning of the New Year – January always feels like a fresh start. I'm still working on what my 2015 resolution is going to be (maybe I should work on being more prompt?!), but in the meantime, I'm going to be losing myself in the black hole that is the internet. It's funny, a dear friend of mine told me that their resolution is to disconnect (from the internet) more, but here I am, still as obsessed with the internet as ever. I've even started pinning again...what is happening to me?!

I Am... The Best of 2014: A Recipe Round Up!

I've got to say, 2014 has been a wild ride! The end of the year is a time for reflection, so I took a look back through the archives. It's so hard for me to pick favorites, but if I had to, these 10 recipes have got to be my favorites of 2014. Looks like I'm obsessed with Asian food (no surprise there!) as well as noodles, breakfast, and chicken. Did you have any favorites?!

I Am... Sunday Brunch: Easy Roast Beef and Brie Puff Pastry Breakfast Tarts Recipe

Happy post-holidays friends – I hope everyone had a good one! Before we move onto the new recipe, I'm going to quickly talk about some pastry machinery I had the pleasure of being shown over the short holiday period. It was unreal! It was a tartlet baking machine that could bake up to 30 tartlets in one sitting. It was so consistent and all of the tartlets were baked to the same perfection. If I had the money and time, I would definitely love to invest in one, it would make life so much easier! Anyway, moving away from the tartlet machine, I'm guessing you might have some leftovers hanging around? And maybe even some guests? If so, this new recipe would totally be super easy to whip up for a casual weekday brunch. I really love having guests stay over – everyone hangs out in their pajamas and gathers around the kitchen for cups of coffee. There's definitely something super-cozy about it.

I Am... Cookies for Santa: The Best Ever Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

Usually I feel a little weird saying "the best." I hear it/see it a lot, but I tend to reserve the best for, well, the best. Inevitably, this means I don't use "the best" as a modifier very often. That being said, I feel totally and utterly confident that this chocolate chip cookie recipe is, in fact, the best. This recipe is Ashley's from Not Without Salt. They're golden brown and crispy on the edges and perfectly gooey and soft in the middles. The sprinkle of sea salt takes the entire cookie over the edge.

I Am... Sunday Brunch: Christmas Morning Coconut French Toast Recipe

Every time Sunday comes around I always ask myself, where the heck did the week go?! Is it me or does everyone feel that the older you get, the faster time seems to pass by? As a kid, the stretch between the first of December and Christmas was the longest time ever. It seemed like an eternity between each day, probably because those little chocolate advent calendars made it even harder to wait for each day to be over. I have such fond memories of me and my brother poking at our advent calendars. One year we managed to sneak one of the chocolates early. We each very carefully punched out the cardboard, ate the chocolates, and pushed the picture back into place. Of course when it was time for that day's chocolate we were totally busted. It was worth it.

I Am... Friday Links: 12.19.2014

Woah! Christmas is coming up fast! It's the last Friday before the big day – are you guys ready? It's just me and Mike in Tokyo so we're planning on a DIY takoyaki party on Christmas Eve and a traditional Japanese Christmas dinner of KFC and a potato salad tree. It's pretty Christmas-y over here – there are countless illuminations (Christmas light displays) and almost all the stores blast Christmas music 24/7. Last Sunday we wandered around Ginza, a glitzy shopping street full of luxury shops and fancy department stores. On Sundays they close the main street so it's pedestrian only, making it perfect for window shopping or grabbing a snack and people watching.

I Am... Sweet Side Dish: Holiday Quinoa Recipe

For me, it's always about the sides. I could make a meal out of side dishes and to be honest, I have, many times. This Christmas quinoa salad has what I think of as wintertime flavours: dried cranberries, crispy crunchy pears, toasted pecans, and oranges. It comes together quickly and is a perfect light and fresh counterpoint to all the hot dishes that are at the table at Christmas.

If you're a fan of food blogs and you don't live under a rock, you probably know Molly, the gorgeously happy voice behind My Name is Yeh. I Am... Rice Cooker Pancake

If you wander around Tokyo, you'll start to notice random line ups outside restaurants. People might be politely queuing for that ultimate bowl of ramen, a bag of artisanal popcorn, or (and this is the most likely) a plate of pancakes. Pancakes are extremely popular. So popular that on any given day you're bound to come across a crazy long line of girls (it's always girls, with maybe a boyfriend or two thrown in) patiently waiting for pancakes. But why wait when you can make a rice cooker pancake right at home?!
