It's finally officially Fall and I'm loving it! Today I made a big ol' pot of bolognese and this weekend I'm looking forward to making a lot of super hearty, fall-friendly dishes. I'm going to hole up, finally watch The Fault in Our Stars and be prepared to bawl my eyes out. While I'm doing that, Mike will most likely be in the other room, rolling his eyes at me.

I wish I was one of those put-together people who have the foresight to have a fully stocked pantry and fridge. Instead, when I open up my fridge, I'm usually looking at limp, forgotten lettuce and frozen peas. I'm forever heading to the grocery store before cooking. It drives Mike crazy but I've never been able to do crazy large grocery runs.

My mom's a huge gardener and she always has been. Even when she was a little kid, she spent her days helping my grandma in the garden. Now, even though she's living in the middle of the city with a concrete patch for a backyard, she's still growing as much as she can. I love going over to pick out fruits and vegetables. It's kind of like having your own personal mini farm. And, as she always likes to remind me, it's all completely organic.

It's Friday! I went on a whirlwind trip to Dallas and ate chicken fried steak twice, rode in some Cadillacs and had a giant steak! I had a ton of fun but I'm kind of exhausted too. I'm going to do a post on Dallas soon, but in the meantime, this is what I've been looking at online.

I've been wanting to make a green grilled cheese forever. I mean, yes, I've put brussel sprouts and broccoli in my grilled cheeses, but never have I ever used spinach in a grilled cheese. This particular green grilled cheese recipe comes to us from Jessica's book, Seriously Delish! If you've ever visited Jessica's blog, How Sweet it Is, you know how entirely awesome she happens to be. She loves trashing things up in a way that is incredibly on point and every time she posts I wish I could reach into my monitor and feast.

Sometimes in the middle of the night I'll sneak out of bed into the darkened kitchen, open up the fridge and stand in the light of the refrigerator while I contemplate snacks to sate my hunger. Cheese has always got my back – its versatility is second to none. For a treat, I'll melt it between two golden brown buttered crispy pieces of bread. If I want to make it even more indulgent, I'll add sweet juicy tomatoes and fresh basil to bring the whole thing over the top. A caprese grilled cheese is always a good thing in my books.

I had a perfectly serendipitous moment on Wednesday. See, for my birthday dinner, all I wanted was a big ol' pan of lasagna. And I wanted to make it myself because that's the kind of thing I find fun: layering noodles, sauce, and cheese. Unfortunately an issue with the oven (it's fixed now!) made lasagna making at home impossible so we decided to head out to a pasta place – one that focuses on fresh pasta and seasonal ingredients, not the sort of place that makes lasagna. But...after we settled ourselves into the cozy bar, I looked on the fresh sheet and saw it! LASAGNA! Of course I ordered it and it satisfied all my lasanga cravings. Needless to say, it was a good day.

Vietnamese gỏi cuốn are one of those funny foods that go by all sorts of names in English. I've seen them called Summer rolls, fresh Spring rolls, and salad rolls. I've always known them as salad rolls so that's what I'm going with. Whatever you like calling them, they are pure handheld genius, especially when you start stuffing them with things that don't traditionally go inside rice paper.

I'm addicted to mustard so when Mouth.com asked me to collaborate with them for a recipe featuring one of their many indie food products I jumped at the chance. Ultimately, I chose beer mustard. Because, BEER MUSTARD!
