It's Friday! It feels like it's been a particularly long week so I'm pretty excited about the weekend. On Wednesday I was preheating the oven for pizza and of course, the fire alarm went off. Usually when this happens I'll wave a dish cloth near the alarm and it'll stop beeping at me, but this time around the entire building's alarm went off! I thought it was me, but when we finally made it down all those flights of stairs (so many, many flights) we found out it was a false alarm. When we made it back upstairs I figured it was the perfect day to make pizza – if the alarm did go off, it wouldn't be because of me.

Once it's sweater weather, I'm all about the cozy and nothing is more cozy than a big pan of lasagna. I even find the act of making lasagna super comforting. I even love getting my hands all saucy and cheesy. To up the cozy, I decided to squash-ify my lasagna with some roasted acorn squash, which is sweet, nutty and perfectly melty after a quick oven-roast.

I don't know about you guys, but I totally have internet crushes. When I find a blog I like, I fall hard and I fall fast. I can easily spend hours that should be spent doing something productive going way, way back into the archives until I get that satisfying feeling of reaching someone's first ever post. I've done it far too many times to admit, but I confess I did it with Izy's gorgeous site, Top with Cinnamon and it was so, so worth it.

Woah, would you look at that – it's 10-10 today! You know that whole golden birthday thing where if your birthday is on, say the 16th and you're turning 16, it's a big celebration? My golden birthday was when I turned 10, but I didn't know what golden birthdays were back then and neither did my parents and I missed out. So now I get excited when the date and month match up. I know, I know, I'm super nerdy.

Growing up, one of my favourite meals was spam, eggs, and rice. It doesn't sound particularly Chinese, but spam, or luncheon meat, is actually a pretty big part of Chinese cuisine. You'll see it in so many dishes on the menus in HK style cafes: spam with macaroni in soup, spam sandwiches, and of course, spam and egg on rice or instant noodles.

A couple weeks ago I was invited to Dallas to go to a Saveur Magazine/Cadillac event hosted at Oak. Of course, I jumped at the chance. Usually I'm a down-home kind of girl who spends her Friday nights in, so heading out to a glitzy-glamourous event was a bit of a dream. I threw on a little black dress (festooned with cats, of course), my ankle boots (we were in Texas, after all!) and got to ride in a fancy Cadillac and have dinner at the gorgeous Oak restaurant.

The days are sunny and crisp, the nights are chilly and I've been indulging in pumpkin everything every day. It's truly October! I know I sound like a broken record, but I really can't believe this week is over already. It really went by in a flash. I spent a bunch of time with friends, got a bunch of work done, and gave a dear friend a birthday present that was the perfect combination of thoughtful and trashy.

It's finally October! October means two things: 1.) Pumpkin season has begun in earnest and 2.) I will not apologize or hide my pumpkin obsession any longer. Everyone makes fun of pumpkin spice, but you know what? Millions of people can't be wrong. Pumpkin spice lattes might be a clever marketing ploy, but I'm down with pumpkin and I'm down with spice.
