I Am... Turducken Roulade
Here, it's full on Christmas already. The stores are decked out, the Christmas music is playing, and there are already holiday sales. Being that it's only November, it's a long wait to Santa. Mike and I blame the early onslaught of Christmas on the fact that Canada celebrates Thanksgiving a whole month earlier than the US. So, being that we already celebrated Turkey Day (twice because I'm a turkey fiend), I'm happy to share with everyone what we made, just in time for our American friends to plan out what they're doing for the big day.

We are in the thick of fall, which means lots of rain and cozy nights in. Basically all I want to do is netflix and eat. That's a thing, right? On the top of my list are foods that are dip-able and eaten with your hands, like miso hummus with crispy onion furikake, black dal and naan, and mini red bean dorayaki!

Mac and cheese will forever be one of my go-to comfort food dishes. There's just something about that creamy combination of cheese and noodles that will always be my favorite food hug. I love how you can dress mac up or down, and no matter what, it'll always be a bowl of deliciousness.

Hong Kong style French toast is one of those indulgent eats that I almost always ordered as a little girl. My family would often go out for Sunday brunch, Chinese style, at a HK cafe, where, instead of the usual egg dishes like omelettes, there would be macaroni in soup sets, fried noodles, and Hong Kong style French toast.

Totoro Week 2016 is over! I'm sad but happy too because it was one of the cutest yet! Here are some links from friends around the internets who made some Totoro-lly awesome things:

I didn't grow up eating whoopie pies. I guess they weren't really a thing in Canadian suburbia. I do remember Ding Dongs, which are two cakes sandwiching frosting, so that's kinda sort of the same? Actually, it's not the same at all. Really, I have no idea when I first tried whoopie pies or why I decided to make them, but I do remember that the first ever whoopie pie I ever ate was a pumpkin one and I made it myself!

It's Totoro Week! It's something I look forward to every year: the last week in October, where I dress food up as Totoro, that magical bunny-cat hybrid from the cult classic anime, My Neighbor Totoro. Totoro is cute in all renditions, but I think he looks especially handsome in food, so it's no surprise that I love making anything and everything Totoro themed. I'm still dreaming of meeting a real life Totoro, but since you only see him if you're very young (at least according to the theme song), I guess I'll just have to setting for celebrating Halloween with Totoro food stuffs.

It's sunny and raining at the same time right now and that always makes me so happy. I just love it when the sun breaks through the rain clouds. I love how you can see every rain drop, in crystal clarity. The streets are shiny and slick and the sky gets bright, the wind pushing the clouds away to make room for the blue sky that was always there. A gentle reminder from nature that, hey, don't worry, better days are on their way.

I'm not a huge bread baker. People say baking bread is a science and it's one that I haven't quite figured out yet. I LOVE bread with a passion but it doesn't always love me back. I remember the very very first loaf of bread I baked – I did it fearlessly, not knowing much about bread baking – turned out fantastic. I still remember our friends being super impressed that it wasn't a store bought loaf. But after that one success, many of my bread baking experiences have been fails.

Whew! We missed Friday the 13th in October by just one day! Friday the 13th freaks me out normally, having it happen in October would be even more disturbing. But, we're safe and it's October! It's definitely October weather around here. We've been making lots and lots of soups to keep warm and are hopping out for walks in between the breaks in the rain.

Crispy autumn weather, cozy nights in, and sweaters forever! The days are getting shorter and shorter, which means we're spending maximum time outside in the fall leaves before heading in for a warm dinner and Netflix. Are you guys into TV dinners? I used to be fascinated with them. And, truthfully, I still kind of am, just not the ones that you microwave.
